Agriculture Committee 

Purpose: The purpose of the Narrow Ridge Agriculture Committees is to make recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding goals and objectives for management and long-term planning of agriculture and forestry.

The scope of the Committee’s Purpose shall include the following functions:

  • Submit action plans to the Board of Directors (BOD) for accomplishing stated goals set by BOD;
  • Provide input to staff and Board of Directors on agricultural budget and grants;
  • Provide Board of Directors with meeting minutes and other feedback as warranted; and
  • Serve as volunteers on agriculture projects as members are able.
  • To make recommendations to the Narrow Ridge Board of Directors regarding immediate and long-term goals and objectives of Narrow Ridge. 

Audit Committee

Purpose: Oversight of Financial, Personnel documents

Buildings and Grounds Committee 

Purpose: The Buildings and Grounds Committee will consult with the Board of Directors and the Buildings and Grounds Manager to determine what routine and priority work needs to be done. The Committee will make recommendations to the Board regarding needed work and will propose an annual budget to the Board for buildings and grounds income and expenses. Members of the committee will serve as volunteers on buildings and grounds projects as they are able. The committee will make recommendations to the Narrow Ridge Board of Directors regarding immediate and long-term goals and objectives of Narrow Ridge. 

Fundraising Committee

Purpose:  To secure the funds necessary for accomplishing the goals and objectives approved by the Narrow Ridge Board of Directors.

Scope:

  • Assure that thank you notes for financial donations from appeal letters, newsletters, pledges and grants are written and sent. 
  • Collaborate on development of appeal letters and be responsible for the mailing.
  • Prepare fundraising request to be included in NR newsletter.
  • Develop an annual budget of income and expenses of the Planning and Development Committee to submit to the Board by mid October.                                   
  • Collaborate with other NR committees seeking funds to ascertain their financial needs accompanied by specific and detailed written budget requests.
  • Build a donor base.
  • Research grant funding and pursue possibilities.
  • Strive to keep a record of in-kind contributions of NR committee members to be used in grant preparation.
  • Review completed necessary reports for grants received. 
  • To enable the Planning and Development Committee to fulfill its responsibility, all reports of any project for which full or partial grant money was received should be submitted in writing to the Planning and Development committee.
  • To make recommendations to the Narrow Ridge Board of Directors regarding immediate and long-term goals and objectives of Narrow Ridge. 

Sources of Revenue:   appeal letters, newsletter requests, pledges, grants, events, programs, wills/bequests

Land Trust Committee

Purpose: It is the purpose of the Land Trust Committee to make continual progress toward implementation of the Land Trust Alliance’s current Land Trust Standards and Practices which are to be used as guidelines for the responsible operation of a land trust. The committee will make recommendations to the Narrow Ridge Board of Directors regarding immediate and long-term goals and objectives of Narrow Ridge. 

Long-term Planning Committee

Purpose: It is the purpose of the Long-term Planning Committee to assist the Board of Directors in establishing long-term organizational goals and strategies accompanied by a realistic timeline especially with regards to land use, programs, buildings and grounds, funding priorities and staffing needs. 

Narrow Ridge Natural Burial Preserve Committee 

Purpose: The NR Natural Burial Preserve Committee exists to assist the NR Board of Directors and its staff in overseeing the operation of NR Natural Burial Preserve in ways that reflect the overall mission and purpose of Narrow Ridge Earth Literacy Center.

Scope:

  • Establish and update guidelines for use of the preserve. 
  • Develop and keep updated a handbook which will contain established guidelines for use and maintenance of the preserve and serve as an educational tool. 
  • The committee will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance of the preserve. 
  • Provide oversight and assure compliance with state regulations and the NR Natural Burial Preserve Binding Rules and Standards.
  • To make recommendations to the Narrow Ridge Board of Directors regarding immediate and long-term goals and objectives of Narrow Ridge. 

Outreach Committee

Purpose: utilizes social media and other marketing tools to broaden the reach of Narrow Ridge audience.

Personnel Committee

Purpose: 1) To provide Narrow Ridge with qualified staff and to maintain harmonious working relationships among staff, volunteers, interns, and committee and Board members; 2) to make policy/procedure recommendations to the Narrow Ridge Board.

Scope: 

  • To assist in the process of hiring staff and interns
  • Assist in the development and circulation of job announcements
  • Assist in the review of staff/employee applications
  • Assist in the review of applicant references
  • Assist in responding to applicants
  • Assist in scheduling and conducting interviews
  • Recommend most suitable candidates for staff/intern positions to Board
  • To collaborate with Director and appropriate committees in developing job descriptions
  • To generate any needed agreements/contracts for staff, interns and volunteers; to acquire the appropriate signatures for such documents; and to maintain record of the signed documents
  • To assist in the development of organizational policies and procedures
  • To assist in developing, updating and maintaining staff, volunteer, intern, committee and Board handbooks
  • To assist in the development and implementation of orientation of staff, volunteers, interns and committee and Board members
  • To make recommendations to the Narrow Ridge Board of Directors regarding immediate and long-term goals and objectives of Narrow Ridge. 

Program Committee 

Purpose:

To assist the director in creating, developing and maintaining programs which reflect the mission and purpose of Narrow Ridge and to support the paid and volunteer staff in the promotion and evaluation of the programs.

Scope:

  • Academic programs/internships
  • Earth literacy courses (both credit and non-credit)
  • Guided retreats
  • Special workshops/seminars—educational/artistic—including but not limited to:
    • Renewable energy/appropriate technology
    • Gardening
    • Health and healing
    • Crafts and artistic endeavors
  • Encouragement of the utilization of outdoor classroom
  • Evaluation and forecast of programs
  • Exploration and suggestions of new activities of programming
  • Collaborate with Director in advertising, marketing, and promoting programs
  • Clarification and evaluation of policy about programs, fees, discounts, scholarships, etc.
  • Maintain regular, systematic contact with the staff with regard to programs
  • Assist the Director in establishing program budgets
  • To make recommendations to the Narrow Ridge Board of Directors regarding immediate and long-term goals and objectives of Narrow Ridge.
